Music Stars on Hiatus

One of the most awaited musician comebacks has been for Lorde. After the release of Melodrama in 2017, the New Zealand pop star has been out of the social media light. Lorde explained, “the day [Melodrama] came out I did a jigsaw puzzle all day in my hotel room in NY. I felt so emptied, I didn’t really know yet that you could make a record and get filled up, and then releasing it empties you… and slowly fills you up again. I was such a baby making that work, lots of emotions and learning so much all the time”. So, ever since that emptiness Lorde felt she decided to take some time off and regroup before her next record. For the last couple of months, Lorde teased her fans that she would be returning soon, but just this weekend she did the biggest tease of all. She updated her website with a photo of her and the writing, “Solar Power” which is the title for her new single releasing this year! Fans are ecstatic for Lorde’s return in 2021.

Adele is one of the most talented singers of this generation. In 2008 she released her debut album that went “8x platinum in the UK and triple platinum in the US”. In 2009, she was nominated for some Grammys, and she walked away with three awards! In 2011, she released 21 which became the second best-selling album in the nation. After all that success, in 2012 she announced that “I have to take time and live a little bit. There were a good two years between my first and second albums, so it’ll be the same this time.” Upon her time off, she became a mom as she gave birth to her son Angelo. Adele proved how her time off didn’t negatively affect her success as she came back with a bang. The album, 25, sold 23 million copies as it became the fourth best-selling album in the 2000s.

One of the most shocking and unfortunate hiatuses was when One Direction announced their break in 2015. One Direction is still one of the biggest boy bands on the planet even without releasing music in the last six years. Since they have been apart, all five members have released their own music and discovered different parts of themselves. Fans have been wanting for the members to have some variation of a reunion. Sadly, it may not be easy as the band revealed that being together was not as glamorous as it may have seemed. This year, “#Justice for1D” was trending when news was brought to light about the way they were mistreated by their management. In 2020, the boys celebrated their ten-year anniversary, and the members thanked the fans for everything they did. So, even though a reunion may be a rare possibility, the fans know that in some part of the band’s heart, they will always be grateful for their journey!

Hiatuses should be a more normal idea for singers. Loyal fans will never undermine their favorite singer for needing a break. People always need a break from work and they should support this for their favorite artists. Most of them love what they do and will always come back after a period of time!
