Joining fast-food restaurants such as Chick-fil-a and Popeyes, McDonald’s released their version of the chicken sandwich on Feb. 24, 2021. The beloved franchise released three different sandwiches: the Crispy Chicken Sandwich, the Spicy Crispy Chicken Sandwich, and the Deluxe Crispy Chicken Sandwich.
Back in Aug. 2019, Popeyes released their chicken sandwich believed to rival Chick-fil-A’s, a restaurant known as the “Home of the Original Chicken Sandwich.” Due to its popularity, the Popeyes’ chicken sandwich sold out for months and is argued to be better than Chick-fil-A’s.
Burger King also plans to release a newer version of their chicken sandwich later this year, replacing it with a hand-breaded version. Like other franchise’s sandwiches, it’s served with pickles, sauce, and the addition of lettuce and tomato.
Interestingly enough, Taco Bell plans on releasing a Crispy Chicken Sandwich Taco. Their version is similar to the others: chicken breaded with tortilla chip coating, bread in the shape of a taco, chipotle sauce, and a spicy version with jalepeños. However, it’ll only be released in restaurants in Nashville, Tennessee, and Charlotte, North Caroline starting on March 11, 2021.
KFC entered the chicken sandwich war as well, their version featuring double breaded chicken breast, a brioche bun, pickles and sauce. The sandwich has been available since the end of February across the U.S. and doubled its original sales projections during its test release in Orlando, Florida.
Chick-fil-a also added a new item to their menu: the Grilled Spicy Deluxe. With their menu already complete with a crispy chicken sandwich, the fast-food chain goes beyond what other franchises have and expands their grilled line.
At the start of its release, the McDonald’s Crispy Chicken Sandwich is available for free when ordering $15 or more via DoorDash using the code CRISPY. The offer is only available from March 1, 2021, to March 7, 2021, giving curious customers only a week to take advantage of the deal and to experience the newest contender in the battle.
