Deadline.com reports that Aniston harnessed 8.6m followers in a single day on Instagram, with a single post. That is some reach, but her celebrity status ensured her success.
Dan Bilzerian is another hugely popular celebrity on Instagram, boasting 32.6m followers, but he did not go into it with a big film, sitcom, or sports career behind him. Bilzerian had played some sports, as Poker.org reveals he is well-known for his success around the poker tables, but that is not why he has grown his reach. They also discuss his extravagant lifestyle, aspirational for many, and that of course attracts people to his account more than his poker career.
Bilzerian is a clever marketer though; he did not need a big career to launch his brand from. Instead, he has become a social media giant by following some simple rules, which you may find useful yourself.
This point applies to social media accounts of all sizes. Bilzerian has Instagram pictures with Pamela Anderson and Rick Ross, as well as featuring on Steve Aoki’s Instagram page several times. That presents him to a new audience and promotes organic growth. Whatever your field on social media, work with those in the same area, cross-promote each other’s posts and you should grow your reach.

Are you an Instagram fan, but rarely use other platforms? If so, then you are missing a great opportunity. Bilzerian is known as an Instagram star, but his Twitter following is 1.6m and 14m followers on Facebook. Make sure you are leveraging other social media platforms for your organic growth.
One thing Bilzerian does very well is content. It might not be all that easy for you to follow sadly, because much of his content is ostentatious, decadent, and well beyond the reach of the average social media user. From clowning around with models on his yacht moored off the Amalfi coast, to falling out of top sports cars in designer clothes, Bilzerian presents an image of aspiration for a generation.
Even Bilzerian has fallen foul of inappropriate content and a suspended account is of little use. In fact, his Snapchat career was very short-lived in 2015, closing off a potential avenue for his content. Maybe, with millions of followers, it is easy to recover across the other platforms, but for smaller brands, it is not. Be aware of what you can and cannot post, and make sure you adhere to those rules.
One aspect of content Bilzerian gets right, decadent or not, is showing his personality. His content features him doing things, having fun, and living life. His account gives you a flavor of who he is, not just what he does. If you have an account you wish to use for business but is mainly focused on your brand, make sure it is not all work and no play. A pet works wonders, Bilzerian has a furry maned cat Smushball who often features. In fact, Smushball even has half a million followers of his (or her) own!
